During the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Austrian Grand Prix 2024 in Spielberg, security teams utilized the AARTOS DDS system by Aaronia to detect and prevent the use of unauthorized drones. This system, known for its high-speed drone detection capabilities, was deployed in a mobile version inside a Mercedes Sprinter to prioritize the safety of the event attendees, drivers, and crew members. Authorized security authorities can access this data through a mobile app, allowing them to know the drone and operator's current location and take appropriate action.

Stephan Kraschansky, the CEO of Aaronia Austria, mentioned that there have been many sightings of drones near no-fly zones, leading to interventions by his team. Most of the time, they were able to simply warn the drone pilots about their actions. However, in some instances, they had to take control of the drones and safely land them to prevent any potential danger. Security officials also handled the drone pilots during these incidents.

To prevent any harm to spectators and drivers caused by unauthorized drone use, safety measures were put in place throughout the event. The Formula 1 weekend saw several crashes on the track, leading to an exciting race where George Russell claimed the first victory of the season for the Mercedes team, finishing in third place with a smile.

The experts from Aaronia showcased a drone detection system that is quick, dependable, and effective, setting a new record in the process. They achieved a lap time of 7:14.29 in a Mercedes Sprinter, setting the fastest lap for mobile drone detection systems in Spielberg. Their time was only 6:06.60 slower than the fastest lap of the race, which was set by Fernando Alonso in an Aston Martin.
