Enhancing Electronic Detonation Systems Performance with Vishay’s TANTAMOUNT Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors

Vishay's solid tantalum chip capacitors improve the performance of electronic detonation systems. TANTAMOUNT devices have a strong design with low 0.005CV DCL and strict testing standards to guarantee dependable detonation in challenging conditions.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has launched a new range of TANTAMOUNT surface-mount solid tantalum molded chip capacitors that are tailored for use in electronic detonation systems. The Vishay Sprague TX3 series capacitors are designed with a strong mechanical structure, low leakage current (DCL), and rigorous testing requirements to provide improved performance and reliability compared to regular tantalum capacitors and MLCCs.

The capacitors released today have a low DCL value of 0.005CV and a high energy density compared to other types of capacitors. This allows them to deliver more energy for reliable ignition, making them well-suited for use in remote detonation systems in mining and demolition settings. By using tantalum anode technology and Vishay's top-quality dielectric formation, these capacitors are able to maintain stable electrical performance even in challenging environments.

In order to guarantee dependability, TX3 series capacitors undergo more rigorous testing than typical commercial capacitors. Each capacitor is subjected to 100% surge current testing using standard methods, as well as two additional screenings to ensure consistent electrical characteristics across different production batches. These capacitors are encased in hard plastic resin to provide a durable solution, with higher shock (100 g) and vibration (20 g) resistance compared to MLCCs, meeting MIL-STD-202 standards.

The TX3 series is available in two different case sizes, B and C, with capacitance ranging from 10 µF to 100 µF and voltage ratings from 16 V to 25 V. The devices have a capacitance tolerance of ±10% and ESR values ranging from 0.700 Ω to 2.3 Ω at +25 °C. They also have a ripple current of up to 0.438 A and can operate at high temperatures up to +125 °C. The TX3 series features lead-free terminations, is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.

The new solid tantalum capacitors are currently available in sample and production quantities. Lead times for these capacitors range from 10 to 12 weeks. To inquire about pricing, customers are advised to reach out to their local Vishay representative.
