Enhancing OTA Measurements: EMITE and Rohde & Schwarz Collaborate on Wi-Fi 7 and 5G RedCap Technology

EMITE and Rohde & Schwarz are working together to improve EMITE's Over-the-Air (OTA) measurement solutions by incorporating the advanced testing features of the R&S CMX500 multi-technology, multi-channel signaling tester. This integration allows for support of LTE, FR1, FR2, the latest WLAN standard IEEE 802.11be, and 5G RedCap, enhancing the capabilities of OTA measurements for Wi-Fi 7 and 5G.

EMITE's advanced testing chambers can now be used with the latest features of the R&S CMX500 signaling tester from Rohde & Schwarz. This tester can evaluate a variety of devices, including those using LTE, 5G NR FR1 up to 8 GHz, and FR2 up to 50 GHz, as well as the new 5G RedCap technology. It also supports non-cellular technologies like Wi-Fi 7, all in one device. Through this partnership, EMITE's customers can assess the performance of Wi-Fi 7 and 5G Red Cap devices accurately.

EMITE's upgraded OTA chambers are equipped to meet the demanding testing needs of both current and upcoming wireless technologies. The next phase of the partnership involves exploring the integration of test capabilities for NB-IoT NTN and NR NTN, which are already supported by the R&S CMW500 and R&S CMX500.

The Wi-Fi 7 standard, also known as IEEE 802.11be, is the upcoming advancement in Wi-Fi technology, aimed at providing significantly higher data speeds compared to its predecessor, Wi-Fi 6/6E (IEEE 802.11ax). With the capability to handle tens of gigabits of data per second and minimal delays, Wi-Fi 7 is designed to cater to the increasing need for high-quality video streaming, as well as virtual reality and augmented reality experiences.

RedCap is a type of 5G technology that is outlined in 3GPP Release 17. It is a simpler and more cost-effective version of 5G eMBB, with features like moderate data speeds, low energy usage, minimal complexity, and the capability to connect to numerous devices. These qualities make it well-suited for Internet of Things (IoT) uses.

David A. Sánchez-Hernández, the CEO of EMITE, expressed a commitment to providing high-quality products and ensuring customer satisfaction. He announced the upgrade of their testing chambers with the R&S CMX500, which will allow customers to test the IEEE 802.11be standard and Red Cap devices. This partnership reflects EMITE's dedication to offering advanced testing solutions that meet the changing needs of the telecommunications industry.

According to Christoph Pointner, who is the Senior Vice President of Mobile Radio Testers at Rohde & Schwarz, they are pleased to enhance their partnership with EMITE. This collaboration allows EMITE's clients to confidently use their devices for cutting-edge technologies, as their products have undergone thorough testing to ensure they meet the highest standards of reliability and efficiency. This was achieved by integrating Rohde & Schwarz's R&S CMX500 one-box signaling tester into EMITE's OTA chambers portfolio.
