Infineon and Swoboda Collaborate to Develop High-Performance Current Sensors for Electromobility: Accelerating Innovation in Automotive Applications

Infineon Technologies AG and Swoboda are working together to create and sell advanced current sensor modules for use in cars. This partnership combines Infineon's top-quality current sensor ICs with Swoboda's knowledge in developing and producing sensor modules, specifically for the growing market of sensing technology in hybrid and electric vehicles. Their collaboration aims to speed up the development and release of high-performance current measurement solutions for large-scale applications in vehicles, such as traction inverters and battery management systems, as well as other important automotive uses.

One of the products, the Swoboda CSM510HP2, includes a current sensor module that is fully enclosed and has a smaller size without sacrificing performance. It uses the Infineon TLE4973 coreless current sensor IC for accurate sensing with less than 2 percent error. This module is designed to easily integrate with the HybridPACK™ Drive G2 from Infineon, which is a power module for traction inverters in electric cars. This integration removes the need for external current sensors, making the traction inverters more compact compared to others on the market.

Klaus Lebherz, Head of Business Development at Swoboda, stated that the new current sensors are raising the bar for system integration by simplifying the process. He highlighted that the combination of Infineon's sensor technology and Swoboda's expertise in injection molding has proven to be highly successful.

Andrea Monterastelli, who is in charge of the Automotive Magnetic Sensors Product Group at Infineon Technologies, stated that the market is looking for current sensing solutions that are high performance, compact, and easy to integrate. He mentioned that the integration of these solutions into Infineon's HybridPack Drive G2 provides a very compact option for hybrid and electric vehicles. This is made possible by using Infineon's top-notch current sensor ICs and leveraging Swoboda's expertise.

Infineon and Swoboda are working together to create new current sensing solutions that can be used with various power devices. They are also focusing on applications such as inverter DC link and managing high voltage batteries.
