Infineon and Swoboda Collaborate to Develop High-Performance Current Sensors for Electromobility: Accelerating Innovation in Automotive Applications

Infineon Technologies AG and Swoboda have teamed up to create advanced current sensors for electric vehicles. By combining Infineon's top-of-the-line sensor ICs with Swoboda's knowledge in sensor module development, they aim to capture a growing market for sensing solutions in hybrid and electric vehicles. This partnership will speed up the introduction of high-performance current measurement solutions for popular applications like traction inverters and battery management systems in the automotive industry.

One of the new products available is the Swoboda CSM510HP2, which has a smaller size but still performs well thanks to its fully encapsulated current sensor module. This product is built on the Infineon TLE4973 coreless current sensor IC and offers precise sensing with an error rate of less than 2 percent. It is designed to easily integrate with the HybridPACK™ Drive G2, which is Infineon's power module for traction inverters in electric vehicles. By eliminating the need for separate external current sensors, this product allows for the creation of the most compact traction inverters on the market.

Klaus Lebherz, Head of Business Development at Swoboda, expressed that the new current sensors are revolutionizing system integration. He highlighted the successful combination of Infineon's sensor technology and Swoboda's expertise in injection molding.

Andrea Monterastelli, who is in charge of the Automotive Magnetic Sensors Product Group at Infineon Technologies, stated that the market is looking for current sensing solutions that are high-performing, compact, and easy to integrate. The integration of Infineon's best-in-class current sensor ICs into the HybridPack Drive G2 results in the most compact solution for hybrid and electric vehicles, with the expertise of Swoboda contributing to its success.

Infineon and Swoboda are working together to create more current sensing solutions that can be used with various power devices. These solutions will also be applicable for inverter DC link and high voltage battery management, along with other target applications.
