Moldova Digital Summit 2024: Paving the Way for Digital Innovation in Eastern Europe

The Moldova Digital Summit 2024 aimed to position Moldova as a leading center for digital innovation in Eastern Europe. The event, held in Chișinău from June 6-8 and supported by the country's Prime Minister, highlighted key developments. These included the introduction of EVO, an all-in-one mobile app for citizen-state interactions, enhancements to the national Instant Payments System for businesses, and the introduction of new Identity Cards with a qualified esignature for both identification and travel purposes. Moldova is making strides in becoming a hub for digital advancement in the region.
The summit gathered more than 3,000 participants from Moldova and various European countries such as Romania, Latvia, Poland, France, Estonia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. This highlighted Moldova's growing reputation as a center for technology innovation.
The event provided an interactive opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss strategies for digital transformation in areas such as government, business, skills, and infrastructure. With a lineup of 124 speakers from 14 different countries, topics like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital government were covered. Highlighted presentations on the main stage were particularly noteworthy.
Within the EXPO Zone, there are four main areas that highlight Research and Innovation, Digitalization in Government, Corporate Affairs, Startups, and Investment. The area also includes a special section called Startup Alley, which features the latest technologies and innovations from over 20 local startups. This space serves as a hub for creating international partnerships and opportunities for investment.
Demonstrating its dedication to digital innovation, Moldova presented a number of important initiatives at the Summit.
Moldova is becoming a leader in digital transformation in Europe due to its strategic location and forward-thinking digital policies. Moldova's efforts have been recognized with a 60th place ranking in the Global Innovation Index. Furthermore, Moldova has entered the Global Soft Power Index at 118th out of 193 countries, indicating its growing influence in cultural, social, and economic aspects on the world stage.
Moldova is positioning itself as an attractive option for investors, with a distinct European tax system that encourages reinvestment and business expansion. The Moldova Innovation Technology Park has been extended until 2035, with a consistent tax rate of 7%, providing a reliable and appealing environment for technology investors. Additionally, recent updates to regulations for limited liability companies have improved entrepreneurial opportunities and streamlined business operations.
The Moldova Digital Summit 2024 is leading the way for digital transformation events in the region. It is hosted by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization in collaboration with the National Association of ICT Companies (ATIC), and with assistance from Moldova's eGovernance Agency, Moldova Innovation Technology Park, Invest Moldova Agency, Tekwill, Startup Moldova, Technovator, and the Moldovan Technical University.
