Revolutionizing In-Vehicle Embedded Computing: AAEON’s BOXER-8658AI with 8 PoE LAN Ports

The AAEON BOXER-8658AI is a powerful computing system designed for use in vehicles. It features eight PoE LAN ports, E-Mark certification, and a high level of serial communication capabilities, setting a new standard for in-vehicle embedded computing.

AAEON has introduced a new embedded AI system, the BOXER-8658AI, which is part of their lineup of products based on the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX. Specifically designed for use in vehicles, the BOXER-8658AI features eight PoE LAN ports (802.3af/at), GNSS, a 9-axis sensor, E-Mark certification, and 9V to 36V input with accessory ignition delay on/off.

Important specifications

The BOXER-8658AI is built to be easily set up and withstand tough conditions, meeting MIL-STD-810G standards for shock and vibration resistance. It can operate in temperatures ranging from -15°C to 60°C and has dimensions of 8.27’’ x 6.46’’ x 2.99’’ (9.69’’ x 6.46’’ x 3.27’’ with brackets). It can be conveniently mounted on a wall and does not need an extra power supply for mobile use due to its PoE port selection.

The BOXER-8658AI allows for communication with different vehicle systems, sensors, and equipment through its I/O features. It includes four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, as well as DB-9 and DB-15 ports for CANBus and RS-232/422/485. The DB-15 port also supports 8-bit DIO, and optional UART/I2C connector enables GPS and 9-axis sensor board support.

The BOXER-8658AI offers various ways to connect wired peripherals, as well as seven antenna openings for Wi-Fi and LTE communication. These can be accessed through the PC's M.2 2230 E-Key and M.2 3052 B-Key slots. Expansion options also include an M.2 2280 M-Key for NVMe, a SATA drive bay, and two SIM card slots.

AAEON acknowledges that the BOXER-8658AI is suitable for use in vehicles or for Industrial Network Video Recorder (NVR) applications. It can utilize the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX's 100 TOPS of performance and 1024-core NVIDIA Ampere architecture GPU to perform complex AI inference tasks with the large amounts of data collected from connected peripherals.

You can now pre-order the BOXER-8658AI on the eShop, which comes in different versions with either 8GB or 16GB NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX modules. It also includes LPDDR5 system memory with matching capacity.
