Infineon and Swoboda Collaborate to Develop High-Performance Current Sensors for Electromobility: Accelerating Innovation in Automotive Applications

Infineon Technologies AG and Swoboda have joined forces to create advanced current sensor modules for use in automobiles. By combining Infineon's top-of-the-line current sensor ICs with Swoboda's knowledge in developing and producing sensor modules, they are targeting the expanding market for sensing solutions in hybrid and electric vehicles. These collaborative solutions will speed up the introduction of high-volume applications like traction inverters and battery management systems, as well as other important automotive uses.

One of the latest products available is the Swoboda CSM510HP2, which includes a current sensor module that is fully enclosed and has a smaller size without sacrificing performance. It utilizes the Infineon TLE4973 coreless current sensor IC to provide precise sensing with an error rate of less than 2 percent. This module is designed to seamlessly work with the HybridPACK™ Drive G2, which is a power module for traction inverters in electric vehicles made by Infineon. By integrating the current sensor into the power module, there is no longer a need for separate external sensors, resulting in more compact traction inverters on the market.

Klaus Lebherz, who is the Head of Business Development at Swoboda, mentioned that the current sensors of this new generation are setting higher standards when it comes to making system integration easier. Lebherz also stated that the sensor technology from Infineon and the injection molding expertise of Swoboda complement each other perfectly.

Andrea Monterastelli, who leads the Automotive Magnetic Sensors Product Group at Infineon Technologies, mentioned that the market is looking for current sensing solutions that are high performing, compact, and easy to integrate. He also highlighted how their current sensor ICs seamlessly integrate into Infineon's HybridPack Drive G2, providing a compact solution for hybrid and electric vehicles with the help of Swoboda's expertise.

Infineon and Swoboda are working together to create new current sensing solutions for a variety of power devices. They are also focusing on applications such as inverter DC link and high voltage battery management.
