Enhancing Phase Control with Galvanic Isolation: Würth Elektronik Introduces New TRIAC Optocouplers

Würth Elektronik has introduced a new solution for controlling the phase of AC loads with galvanic isolation, the WL-OCTR optocouplers. These optocouplers serve as a reliable alternative to mechanical relays and are specifically designed for lamp dimming and AC motor control in household appliances. Additionally, they can function as drivers for high-current TRIACs.

The Würth Elektronik TRIAC optocouplers come in options with or without a zero-cross function to adjust the TRIAC switch-on timing. These optocouplers are available in through-hole (THT) and surface-mount (SMT) designs in DIP4, DIP6, and SOP4 packages, with trigger currents ranging from 5 to 15 mA. With a CTI value of over 500 and insulation voltages of 3750 or 5000 V for THT and SMT designs, these optocouplers are well-suited for circuit protection. They meet all necessary standards, including UL1577, EN IEC 60747-5-5 VDE 0884-5, and CQC GB 4941.1-2022.

The Würth Elektronik TRIAC optocouplers are currently in stock and developers can request free samples of them.
