Enhancing Electronic Detonation Systems Performance with Vishay’s TANTAMOUNT Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors

Vishay's solid tantalum chip capacitors improve the performance of electronic detonation systems. TANTAMOUNT devices have a strong design and meet strict testing standards to guarantee dependable detonation in challenging conditions. The capacitors have a low DCL of 0.005CV.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a new line of TANTAMOUNT surface-mount solid tantalum molded chip capacitors that are made for electronic detonation systems. These Vishay Sprague TX3 series capacitors have a strong mechanical design, low leakage current, and undergo rigorous testing to provide better performance and reliability compared to standard tantalum capacitors and MLCCs.

The capacitors released today have low DCL values of 0.005CV and a high energy density of tantalum, making them efficient for providing the necessary energy for proper ignition. These capacitors are well-suited for use in remote detonation systems that require reliable discharge in mining and demolition settings. Their tantalum anode technology, along with Vishay's superior dielectric formation, ensures consistent electrical performance in challenging conditions.

In order to guarantee dependability, TX3 series capacitors undergo more rigorous testing compared to regular commercial options. Each capacitor is subjected to 100% surge current testing using standard methods, as well as two additional screenings to ensure consistent electrical characteristics across different production batches. The capacitive element and lead frame of the devices are protected by a tough plastic resin, making them a sturdy solution. These capacitors have higher shock (100 g) and vibration (20 g) resistance compared to MLCCs, meeting the standards set by MIL-STD-202.

The TX3 series is available in two case sizes, B and C, and offers a capacitance range of 10 µF to 100 µF with voltage ratings between 16 V and 25 V. The devices have a capacitance tolerance of ± 10% and ESR values ranging from 0.700 Ω to 2.3 Ω at +25 °C. They can handle ripple current up to 0.438 A and operate at high temperatures up to +125 °C. The TX3 series devices have lead-free terminations, are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and are considered Vishay Green.

The new solid tantalum capacitors are currently in stock for both samples and large orders, with a wait time of 10 to 12 weeks. To inquire about pricing, please reach out to your nearest Vishay representative.
