Enhancing Electronic Detonation Systems Performance with Vishay’s TANTAMOUNT Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors
Vishay's solid tantalum chip capacitors improve the performance of electronic detonation systems. TANTAMOUNT devices have a strong design and low 0.005CV DCL, along with strict testing standards to guarantee dependable detonation in tough conditions.
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has launched a new line of TANTAMOUNT surface-mount solid tantalum molded chip capacitors that are tailored for electronic detonation systems. The Vishay Sprague TX3 series capacitors offer improved performance and reliability compared to commercial tantalum capacitors and MLCCs, thanks to their strong mechanical design, low leakage current, and rigorous testing standards.
The capacitors that were launched today have low DCL values of 0.005CV and a high energy density compared to other types of capacitors, specifically tantalum. This allows them to provide more energy for reliable ignition, making them well-suited for remote detonation systems in industries like mining and demolition. The use of tantalum anode technology in these devices, along with Vishay's superior dielectric formation, ensures consistent electrical performance even in tough conditions.
In order to guarantee reliability, TX3 series capacitors undergo more rigorous testing compared to typical commercial capacitors. Each capacitor is subjected to 100% surge current testing using standard methods, along with two additional screenings to ensure consistent electrical performance across different production lots. To enhance durability, the capacitive element and lead frame of the devices are protected by a tough plastic resin. These capacitors have higher shock (100 g) and vibration (20 g) resistance compared to MLCCs, meeting MIL-STD-202 standards.
The TX3 series is available in two case sizes, B (EIA 3528-21) and C (EIA 6032-28), and offers a capacitance range of 10 µF to 100 µF with voltage ratings from 16 V to 25 V and a capacitance tolerance of ±10%. These devices have ESR values ranging from 0.700 Ω to 2.3 Ω at +25 °C, a ripple current up to 0.438 A, and can operate at high temperatures up to +125 °C. The TX3 series features lead (Pb)-free terminations, is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and is considered Vishay Green.
You can now request samples and order production quantities of the recently released solid tantalum capacitors. The lead times for these capacitors are currently 10 to 12 weeks. For pricing information, please reach out to a Vishay representative in your area.
