Enhancing Electronic Detonation Systems Performance with Vishay’s TANTAMOUNT Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors
Vishay's Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors improve the performance of electronic detonation systems. TANTAMOUNT devices have a strong design and undergo rigorous testing to ensure dependable detonation in challenging conditions, with a low 0.005CV DCL.
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a new line of TANTAMOUNT surface-mount solid tantalum molded chip capacitors that are tailored for electronic detonation systems. The Vishay Sprague TX3 series capacitors are built with a durable design, low leakage current, and strict testing standards to provide improved performance and reliability compared to standard tantalum capacitors and MLCCs.
The capacitors that were introduced today have a low DCL value of 0.005CV and a high energy density compared to other types of capacitors. This allows them to provide more energy for reliable ignition, making them well-suited for remote detonation systems in mining and demolition. The use of tantalum anode technology and Vishay's high-quality dielectric formation ensures consistent electrical performance even in harsh conditions.
In order to guarantee reliability, TX3 series capacitors undergo more rigorous testing compared to standard commercial options. Each capacitor is tested for surge current at 100% using standard methods, and also undergoes two additional screenings to ensure consistent electrical performance across different production batches. These capacitors are made durable with a protective hard plastic resin encapsulating the capacitive element and lead frame. They offer better resistance to shock (100 g) and vibration (20 g) compared to MLCCs, meeting MIL-STD-202 standards.
The TX3 series comes in two case sizes, B (EIA 3528-21) and C (EIA 6032-28), and offers capacitors ranging from 10 µF to 100 µF with voltage ratings between 16 V and 25 V. The capacitance tolerance can go as low as ± 10%. These devices have ESR values ranging from 0.700 Ω to 2.3 Ω at +25 °C, can handle ripple currents up to 0.438 A, and can operate at high temperatures up to +125 °C. The TX3 series devices have lead (Pb)-free terminations, are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and labeled as Vishay Green.
You can now get samples and large quantities of the recently released solid tantalum capacitors, but there is a waiting period of 10 to 12 weeks. For pricing information, reach out to your nearest Vishay representative.
