Enhancing Electronic Detonation Systems with Vishay’s TANTAMOUNT Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors
Vishay's solid tantalum chip capacitors improve the performance of electronic detonation systems. TANTAMOUNT devices have a durable design with low 0.005CV DCL and strict testing standards to guarantee reliable detonation in tough conditions.
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a new line of TANTAMOUNT surface-mount solid tantalum molded chip capacitors that are tailored for use in electronic detonation systems. These Vishay Sprague TX3 series capacitors offer improved performance and reliability compared to standard tantalum capacitors and MLCCs, thanks to their strong mechanical design, low leakage current, and rigorous testing standards.
The capacitors released today have low DCL values of 0.005CV and a high energy density compared to other types of capacitors. This allows them to deliver more energy for reliable ignition, making them suitable for remote detonation systems in mining and demolition. The use of tantalum anode technology and Vishay's high-quality dielectric formation ensures stable electric performance even in tough environments.
In order to guarantee reliability, TX3 series capacitors undergo more rigorous testing compared to regular commercial capacitors. Each capacitor is tested for surge current using standard methods and also undergoes two additional screenings to ensure consistent electrical characteristics across different production lots. The capacitors are protected by a hard plastic resin encapsulation for durability. They have higher shock (100 g) and vibration (20 g) resistance compared to MLCCs, meeting MIL-STD-202 standards.
The TX3 series is available in two different case sizes, B and C, and offers a capacitance range of 10 µF to 100 µF with voltage ratings between 16 V and 25 V. The capacitance tolerance can go as low as ± 10%. These devices have ESR values ranging from 0.700 Ω to 2.3 Ω at +25 °C, ripple current up to 0.438 A, and can operate at high temperatures up to +125 °C. They have lead (Pb)-free terminations, are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and part of the Vishay Green initiative.
The new solid tantalum capacitors are currently in stock for sampling and production in small quantities. Lead times are expected to be between 10 to 12 weeks. For pricing information, please contact a Vishay representative in your area.
