Enhancing Electronic Detonation Systems with Vishay’s TANTAMOUNT Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors: A Robust Solution for Harsh Environments
Vishay's solid tantalum chip capacitors improve the performance of electronic detonation systems. TANTAMOUNT devices have a strong design and meet strict testing standards to ensure reliable detonation even in tough conditions.
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a new line of TANTAMOUNT surface-mount solid tantalum molded chip capacitors that are tailored for use in electronic detonation systems. The Vishay Sprague TX3 series capacitors are designed with a durable mechanical structure, low leakage current, and rigorous testing standards in order to provide improved performance and reliability compared to standard tantalum capacitors and MLCCs.
The capacitors released today have a low DCL value of 0.005CV and a high energy density due to tantalum, making them effective for ensuring proper ignition. They are well-suited for use in remote detonation systems in mining and demolition applications that require reliable discharge. The combination of tantalum anode technology and Vishay's high-quality dielectric formation ensures stable electrical performance in these challenging environments.
In order to guarantee dependability, TX3 series capacitors are subjected to more rigorous testing than typical commercial capacitors. Each capacitor undergoes 100% surge current testing using standard methods, as well as two additional screenings to ensure consistent electrical characteristics across production lots. The capacitors are encased in hard plastic resin to provide a durable solution, with the capacitive element and lead frame protected. Compared to MLCCs, TX3 series capacitors have higher shock tolerance (100 g) and vibration resistance (20 g) in compliance with MIL-STD-202.
The TX3 series is available in two case sizes, B (EIA 3528-21) and C (EIA 6032-28), and offers a capacitance range of 10 µF to 100 µF with voltage ratings between 16 V and 25 V. The capacitance tolerance can be as low as ±10%. These devices have ESR values ranging from 0.700 Ω to 2.3 Ω at a temperature of +25 °C, with a ripple current up to 0.438 A and can operate at high temperatures up to +125 °C. The TX3 series features lead (Pb)-free terminations, making them RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and part of the Vishay Green initiative.
You can now request samples and order production quantities of the recently released solid tantalum capacitors. The lead times for these orders are currently estimated at 10 to 12 weeks. To inquire about pricing, please get in touch with your nearest Vishay representative.
